My name is Matt.  I’m a marathoner and ultrarunner, and I happen to be a vegetarian.  Since your friend sent you this link, I’m guessing we’re at least a little bit alike.

The funny thing is, when I went vegetarian, I expected it to basically ruin my endurance training.  And then a few weeks into it—surprise!—I was ecstatic to find that I had gotten much faster as a result of my new diet.  I qualified for the Boston Marathon a few months later, and soon after that, I started ultrarunning, completing my first two 50-milers within the next year.
