- Instead of table salt, a lot of cooks use kosher salt in their cooking (it tastes better). Most recipes don’t make the distinction clear, and since kosher salt is more coarse, a teaspoon of table salt is saltier-tasting than a teaspoon of kosher salt, so you may need to add more or less depending on which you’re using. We keep our kosher salt in a small bowl, rather than getting the box out every time we have to use it.
