NMA Radio: What We Eat on a Typical Day

Note from Matt: If you’re keeping score at home, then you probably noticed we published two podcast posts in a row this week. Don’t worry, this week’s second blog post is still coming, just in a little different order due to travel schedules. We’ll back on track next week!

Over the past 95 episodes, we’ve talked a lot about the ideal diet, and ways Matt and I try to find it. Between the two of us, we’ve experimented with fruitarian, nutritarian, raw, juicing, oil-free, and minimal processed foods.

But while experimenting and talking about an ideal way of eating is fun and inspiring, it isn’t always practical. So today Matt and I get real — we share exactly what we eat throughout a typical day (i.e. not a day when we’re trying a crazy food experiment).

We don’t pretend that the way we eat is perfect, but we hope to provide a framework and give you some confidence in creating your own meal plan. And, hopefully, to demonstrate that a whole foods plant-based diet isn’t all kale and shots of wheatgrass.

Here’s what we talk about in this episode:

  • Typical breakfasts, lunches, and dinners
  • Should you snack throughout the day?
  • Why Doug doesn’t eat before a typical run, but Matt does
  • Eating healthy at the office

  1. Hey guys!

For whatever reason I don’t see this episode in my subscription (not using iTunes, running a Podcast+ Pro on Windows Phone) and can’t download it to my device to take with me on a run. Did you make any changes to how the things work now?

    • I have the same problem

    • Guys,

For whatever reason I’m not receiving new podcasts. I’m only able to see the first 95 of them. Unfortunately I’m not able to take NMA podcasts with me on a run anymore and I’ll have to stick to listening to them at home which is a pity.

If you have any suggestions on how to fix it, I will really appreciate that.

      • Hey Maxim — do you listen on Stitcher, by chance?

        • My podcasts player doesn’t show me the exact URL of my subscriptions, but I believe that I’m subscribed through Stitcher. Up until this episode there was no problem, even when some people stopped receiving updates in the past.

  2. Doug is a grits-lover with no trace of a Southern accent – must be from NC (my former stomping grounds)!
Enjoyed this timely podcast – excellent!

  3. Can’t remember if it was this episode or the one about stocking the pantry but it was mentioned that tahini was made from sunflower seeds but typically tahini is made using sesame seeds. Unless I’m missing something?
