I Started a New Blog

And it has absolutely nothing to do with vegetarian running!

Instead, it's about gambling, or more specifically, the mathematics of gambling.  It's called Thinking Bettor.

Contrary to what you may have been told, I don't run marathons all day in a big carrot costume.  Instead, I'm an applied math Ph.D. student, and my research is in modeling trader behavior in financial markets.  (If you've been reading No Meat Athlete for a little while, you've probably picked up that I'm kind of a math and gambling nerd.  Or at least that I'm a nerd in general.)

Since it's not something that will interest the non-gamblers among you, I probably won't mention my gambling blog here again.  And don't worry, it'll be secondary to NMA.

But it's something that I think will help with my career once I graduate (whatever that career may be), and I figured that since you presumably enjoy what I write, you might be interested in checking it out or passing it along to someone who would be interested.

So please, take a look or send it to someone who might like it.  Thanks for your help!  NMA will be back to its normal self tomorrow, with the one-month vegan challenge starting next week.

The new site looks great Matt. I'm not much of a gambler, but a ton of my friends are and they will be interested in a site that takes an intelligent (and non sleazy) approach to the subject.

I also want to go on the record as saying that you should definitely run a marathon while wearing a carrot costume.

I concur with the commenter above me– I think you need to run a marathon in a carrot costume. :D

And just when I was thinking, I bet Matt has so much spare time on his hands he must sew carrot costumes and braid hemp bracelets. Evidently you do have a minute or two to spare and I must say that is an entirely clever title.

Geeks of the world got to stick together so we don`t get beat up. Oh, that`s right, we can run faster than the bullies now! Muhaha

I have no doubt it will be a success.

If you don't/won't run a marathon in a carrot costume, can I? :-) Okay, maybe more like a 10k, but still…

Matt, I don't gamble – it's always a sure thing, heh heh – but I love math and probability, so I'm going to check it out!

Curious about the "help my career" thing, too. I've avoided blogging in my field, as I'm in education administration, and I can't figure out how the positives would outweigh the risks.

Interesting blog – going to read your "why do smart people gamble" post there now, as I honestly didn't think smart people did that ;) Seriously, I thought in professional gambling, the odds are always against you (that's how they end up making a profit no matter what).
